South Pointe Elementary is committed to providing a free and appropriate public education (FAPE) to all students with disabilities. Our special education program offers a continuum of services designed to meet the unique needs of each student while ensuring access to the general education curriculum.
We believe that all students can learn and succeed when given appropriate support, accommodations, and instruction. Our certified special education teachers and related service providers work collaboratively with general education teachers and families to create an inclusive learning environment.
Our Philosophy
We embrace an inclusive approach where students with disabilities learn alongside their peers to the greatest extent appropriate. We focus on students' strengths and abilities while providing the support needed to address their challenges.

The IEP Process
Working together to support your child's success
Referral
A parent, teacher, or other professional requests an evaluation if a student is suspected of having a disability that impacts learning.
Evaluation
With parental consent, a comprehensive evaluation is conducted by qualified professionals to determine if the student has a disability and needs special education services.
Eligibility Determination
The IEP team, including parents, reviews evaluation results to determine if the student qualifies for special education services under IDEA.
IEP Development
If eligible, the team develops an Individualized Education Program with goals, services, accommodations, and placement decisions.
Implementation
With parental consent, the IEP is implemented. Teachers and service providers work to help the student achieve their goals.
Annual Review
The IEP team meets at least annually to review progress, update goals, and make any necessary changes to the program.
